How to Get Your Business Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI

More people now ask AI tools who to call. No one can guarantee an AI will recommend you, but you can make your business much easier for these tools to find, understand and trust.

First, the honest part

ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews don't publish how they choose which businesses to name, and their answers change. Anyone promising a guaranteed spot is guessing. What you can do is strengthen the information these tools rely on.

Where AI tools get information about local businesses

  • Your Google Business Profile and other map listings.
  • Reviews on Google and other sites.
  • Your website, especially clear service pages and answers.
  • Other websites that mention you: directories, local news, community sites and forums.
  • Search indexes like Google and Bing, which many AI search features draw on.

1. Make your Google Business Profile complete

It's free and it's a primary source of local business facts. Follow our Google Maps guide to set it up properly.

2. Keep your details identical everywhere

Same business name, phone number, website and location on Google, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp, Facebook, Instagram and industry directories. Conflicting details make you look like more than one business, or an unreliable one.

3. Earn real reviews

Ask every customer for an honest review, and reply to them. Reviews give AI tools, and people, evidence about what you're good at. Specific reviews ("they rebuilt our menu website in Persian and English") help more than "great service".

4. Write clearly on your own website

  • One page per service, saying plainly what you do, for whom and where.
  • Short answers to the questions customers actually ask.
  • Your location and service areas stated in words, not only on a map.
  • Structured data (schema) describing your business. This site uses it.

5. Let AI crawlers read your site

Some websites block AI crawlers in their robots.txt file without realizing it. If you want to be found in AI search, check that crawlers like OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Googlebot can reach your pages. Hidden text, content that only appears after heavy scripts, and blocked pages are hard for any crawler to read.

6. Get listed on Bing, not only Google

Bing powers Microsoft Copilot answers, and some other AI tools draw on Bing results too. Bing Webmaster Tools and Bing Places are free.

7. Get mentioned beyond your own site

Being mentioned on trusted sites, such as a local news story, a community association, a supplier's case study or an honest Reddit recommendation, gives AI tools independent evidence about you. Your own website alone isn't enough.

8. Test it yourself every month

Write down 10 to 20 questions your customers would ask, like "best web designer in Coquitlam" or "who can fix a suspended Google listing in Vancouver". Ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google each month, and note who gets named. That's your scoreboard.

Questions. Answered.

Can anyone guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. AI tools don't publish how they choose, and answers vary. You can only improve the signals they rely on.

Does SEO still matter with AI search?

Yes. AI search features rely on the same foundations: being indexed, clear content, a complete business profile and a good reputation.

What's llms.txt?

It's a proposed plain-text summary of a website written for AI tools. It's easy to add, but there's no confirmation that major AI tools rely on it, so treat it as a small extra, not a fix.
